Discover Bolsover shortlisted for prestigious national award

Discover Bolsover – the project set up to transform the Bolsover town centre economy – has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The Placemaking Awards recognise projects, people and organisations that are making places better.

Following a successful bid by Bolsover District Council for £750k of European Regional Development Funding, the Discover Bolsover project was launched a year ago to rejuvenate Bolsover, boost local trade, and showcase the town as a tourist destination.

Since then, a Discover Bolsover website, marketing campaign and events programme has been undertaken by Sheffield agency Ruby Slippers Ltd, alongside construction works to improve the town centre by Nottingham’s North Midland Construction Ltd.

District Council cabinet member for regeneration Councillor Alan Tomlinson said, “We’re delighted to have been shortlisted and have the project recognised nationally.”

“As a result of the hard work so far, in just a short time, Bolsover has attracted thousands of extra visitors and many new businesses to invest,” he said.

“The response from local businesses and residents has been fantastic and we are really beginning to see the town reach its potential and be transformed in social, tourism and economic terms.”

The winners of the 2014 Placemaking Awards will be announced at a ceremony at the Royal Institution in London on 31 March 2015.
