Lighting the Flame for Sport

Sheffield City Council

Sheffield City Council appointed Ruby Slippers to promote South Yorkshire as a first-class destination for sport.

The three-year project, known as ‘Lighting the Flame for Sport’, brought together Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster Council’s, as well as a large group of partners and stakeholders from across the Yorkshire region.

Working alongside the ‘Lighting the Flame’ team we develop a communications strategy and a series of high impact campaigns.

Engagement

We reached out to local sporting legends and aspiring stars, sports venues and teams, community groups, education and business, to excite our audiences and create conversations about sport and Sheffield. In addition, we created a series of ambitious and attention-grabbing events to help widen participation and increase interest in the Lighting the Flame campaign.

Our work:

  • PR and media management
  • Content & copywriting
  • Newsletter & magazine production
  • Event management
  • Marketing & communications campaigns

Coverage reached international, national, and regional audiences, and footfall at events exceeded expectations.

“Ruby Slippers successfully met the ambitions of the 2012 communications contract and have been instrumental in raising awareness of how Sheffield and South Yorkshire are embracing the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Ruby Slippers are entirely focused on delivering what is best for the client and take the time to explain what they expect to achieve in a clear and open manner. They are motivated by providing a first class service and go above and beyond to ensure that they deliver what they set out to.

“I would like to thank Ruby Slippers for all their hard work and enterprising ideas.”
