Worksop photographer snaps up top spot to win Picture of the Year

Celebrations are underway for a Worksop-based photographer who has snapped up a wedding industry award, winning Picture of the Year 2017 from The Wedding Community, beating 300 other photographs to reach the top spot.

The image titled, ‘The March Hare’ was taken by professional photographer Gabrielle Bower, and was initially shortlisted from 30 other pictures to win Picture of the Month, and from here it went on to win The Wedding Community’s Picture of the Year 2017.

The Wedding Community, which launched in 2009 has rapidly grown its online presence, with a social media following of nearly 100,000 followers from individuals that all have a keen interest in weddings.

Gabrielle captured the unique shot of ‘The March Hare’ whilst photographing a Wedding at the Hewitt Arms in Shireoaks last year, she was “delighted” to have her work recognised by both customers and industry peers who voted for the winning picture. She said,

“The Wedding Community is such a far-reaching online community so it is hugely exciting to have won the competition, and the fact that the votes were cast independently and I beat such a fantastic collection of pictures taken by hugely talented photographers makes me more than a little bit giddy!

“Helen and Aaron’s Wonderland Wedding was very alternative and so much fun to shoot. When I spotted The March Hare sipping his afternoon tea and having a laugh with guests, it totally captured the spirit of the day and I’m delighted to have got the shot”.
